Disability and Gender-Based Violence Study

Overview: This qualitative study explores the lived experiences of disabled women in Newfoundland and Labrador who have experienced gender-based violence. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), the research examines themes such as institutional betrayal, systemic ableism, and multigenerational trauma, with the goal of informing more inclusive and trauma-informed responses.

Universal Design for Learning in Practice-Based Social Work Education
Funding: Teaching Enhancement through Scholarly Inquiry (TESI) Program, Memorial University
Overview: This multi-phase case study explores the gap between the implementation and effectiveness of universal design for learning in practice-based social work education.

Reproductive Justice Through Research-Creation
Funding: Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Development Grant
Overview: This participatory project centres the voices of disabled young women and non-binary people (ages 18–24) in Newfoundland and Labrador to explore their reproductive care experiences. Using arts-based methods, including comics-based storytelling, the project will produce a graphic novel to share findings with youth, practitioners, and the public.

Service User and Carer Involvement in Social Work Education
Overview: This project examines how people with lived experience can actively shape curriculum, instruction, and assessment in social work education. Current work includes the development of a Specialized Curricular Guide on Service User Involvement, coordinated by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Accommodations in Canadian Social Work Education
Funding: Mitacs Globalink Research Internship; Memorial University
Overview: This national study explores the accommodation experiences of disabled social work students and students with disabilities across Canada. Using survey data, the study investigates barriers and facilitators in academic and field settings, with the goal of informing institutional change and accessibility practices in social work education.
