A Study on Reproductive Care and Disability in NL: Contributing to a Graphic Novel

Overview
This study explores how disabled young women and gender-diverse people experience reproductive care in Newfoundland and Labrador. We are interested in experiences related to things like birth control, periods, pregnancy, and making choices about one’s body.

What participants share will be used to help create a graphic novel that centres lived experience and sparks conversation and change around reproductive care and disability. An honorarium is available to thank you for your time and contributions.

What’s Involved?

Participants will be invited to:

Complete an online survey.

Take part in a one-day (8-hour) in-person focus group in St. John’s, Corner Brook, or Happy Valley–Goose Bay.

Share stories at your own comfort level.

Take part in drawing or other creative activities (you choose how you express yourself).

Join follow-up conversations to reflect and provide feedback.

Who Can Participate?

You may be eligible if you:

Are 18–24 years old and can attend a focus group in St. John’s, Corner Brook, or Happy Valley Goose-Bay.

Identify as a disabled person or as someone living with a disability.

Identify as a young woman, non-binary, or gender-diverse person.

Are conversationally fluent in English or comfortable using ASL or CART interpretation.
