We are excited to welcome Emily Howe and Israt Lipa to the CARES Lab team!

Emily Howe (she/her) is a PhD candidate in Public Safety at Memorial University, specializing in occupational health and well-being among public safety communicators, such as 911 dispatchers. With a background in Health Sciences (BSc, Carleton University) and Applied Psychological Science (MSc, Memorial University), she has worked on research projects with the Ottawa Police Service, Stella’s Circle, and CCWORK. Emily will be working on a project exploring reproductive healthcare decision-making among young disabled people in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Israt Lipa (she/her) is a PhD candidate in Folklore at Memorial University with ten years of research experience in areas including road safety, disability, reproductive health, and trauma-informed research. Her PhD examines the human elements of road accidents through folk beliefs, material culture, and personal narratives. Passionate about storytelling as a tool for social change, Israt will be contributing to projects related to gender-based violence and disability.
