We are excited to welcome Karen Dayan Niño Rodriguez to the CARES Lab this spring and summer as part of the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) program!
Karen is currently completing her undergraduate degree in Modern Languages with an English Emphasis at Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC) in Colombia. She was selected through the highly competitive GRI program, which connects top undergraduate students from international institutions with faculty at Canadian universities for 12-week research placements. Karen brings a strong background in research and language studies to our team.
From May to August 2025, Karen will be contributing to our ongoing research project, “Accommodation Experiences of Disabled Social Work Students in Canada: A Mixed-Methods Study.” This study examines how disabled social work students navigate academic accommodations, the barriers they face, and ways to improve accessibility in social work education.
As part of the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship, Karen will not only contribute to research but also participate in professional development, networking events, and mentorship opportunities designed to support meaningful academic and career growth.
We are thrilled to welcome Karen to the CARES Lab and look forward to working with her on this study. Stay tuned for updates on her work throughout the summer!
