In September 2025, members of the CARES Lab presented their research at the 6th European Conference on Domestic Violence (ECDV) in Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Ami Goulden (Memorial University), Dr. Stephanie Baird (King’s University College, Western University), and Tori Lewis (PhD student, University of Windsor; CARES Lab Research Assistant) shared findings from the Disability and Gender-Based Violence Study, which explores the lived experiences and help-seeking strategies of disabled women in Newfoundland and Labrador. Their presentations emphasized the need for accessible, trauma and violence-informed care (TVIC), and intersectional supports for survivors.
This research is part of the ongoing Disability and Gender-Based Violence Study, led by Dr. Ami Goulden, which uses phenomenological methods to understand how disability shapes experiences of violence, access to support, and recovery. The study has recently been accepted for publication in Qualitative Social Work and will be available soon.
Tori Lewis also presented a poster titled Gender-Based Violence and the Impact of Violence on Health and the Role of Trauma, mapping current research on the intersections of gender-based violence, trauma, and health outcomes across international contexts.
