
The Universal Design for Learning Community of Practice (CoP) will hold its next session, Friday, March 20, from 2:00–3:30 p.m. NST.
This month’s seminar, Building Lifelong Agency: Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the K-12 Classroom, will feature Elaina Fennell (she/her) and Alison Edwards (she/her), K-12 Program Implementation Specialists with NLSchools.
Drawing on their experiences working with educators across Newfoundland and Labrador, Elaina and Alison will explore how Universal Design for Learning can support the development of learner agency in K-12 classrooms. Through reflections on their own professional learning journeys and insights from students, the session will examine how UDL can help foster independence, goal-setting, and engagement among diverse learners.
Topics will include:
- The concept of learner agency and its role across learning and life contexts
- Applications of UDL within K-12 curriculum settings
- Supporting learners with diverse backgrounds, strengths, and needs
- The role of goal-setting in student learning
- UDL-aligned strategies to support the development of learner agency
