We’re excited to share that Ami is co-editing a forthcoming special issue titled Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in Social Work: Advancing Accessibility, Inclusion, and Equity alongside Dr. Tracy Smith-Carrier. The special issue will be published in Smith College School for Social Work’s journal, Studies in Clinical Social Work: Transforming Practice, Education and Research.
This special issue invites scholars, educators, practitioners, and community-engaged researchers to contribute work exploring how UDL can strengthen accessibility, participation, and inclusion across social work education, practice, and research.
While UDL has become increasingly recognized within educational contexts, there remains significant opportunity to further explore its applications within social work classrooms, field education, clinical practice, policy, and community settings. The issue will highlight scholarship and emerging practices related to topics such as:
- UDL-informed teaching and curriculum design
- Accessibility and inclusion in field education
- Online and hybrid learning environments
- Faculty development and institutional change
- Co-designing learning environments with students and communities
- UDL implementation in social work practice settings
- Research and implementation science related to UDL
- Program redesign and organizational change using UDL frameworks
