The CARES Lab is excited to welcome Mariela Carolina Calderón Muñoz and Sara Martinez Rueda as Mitacs Globalink Research Interns for Summer 2026.
Sara Martinez Rueda joins us from Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga in Colombia, where she is a third-year undergraduate psychology student. Sara is actively involved in academic research, volunteer work, and interdisciplinary initiatives focused on social impact and well-being. Her interests include social psychology, gender equality, feminist and inclusive perspectives, mental health care, and comprehensive sexuality education. During her time with the CARES Lab, Sara will be supporting an arts-based research project focused on creative, participatory, and inclusive research methods.
Mariela Carolina Calderón Muñoz joins us from Universidad Tecnológica El Retoño in Aguascalientes, Mexico, where she is completing a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Management and Curriculum Administration. Mariela is particularly interested in inclusive education, learner engagement, and the design of accessible and meaningful learning experiences. She also brings experience teaching English to learners of different ages and proficiency levels, using communicative, task-based, and student-centered approaches. During her time with the CARES Lab, Mariela will be supporting our national study on accommodations in Canadian social work education.
We are so grateful to have Sara and Mariela joining the lab this summer. Their interests and experience align beautifully with CARES Lab’s work on accessibility, disability justice, inclusive education, and community-engaged research.
Please join us in giving them a very warm welcome!
